Why Behaviour Change Matters for Lasting Impact

Access to services alone is not enough to improve wellbeing. Behaviours, social norms, and trust in systems play a critical role in shaping health, nutrition, and protection outcomes. Recognising this, Action Aid Initiative (AAI) embeds Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) across all its programmes.

AAI’s SBC approach is grounded in evidence, community insights, and respectful engagement. Working with community leaders, women, youth, and frontline workers, we promote positive behaviours related to maternal and child health, nutrition, hygiene, disease prevention, and protection from harm.

By using interpersonal communication, community dialogue, and locally appropriate messaging, AAI supports communities to make informed choices and challenge harmful norms. This integrated approach ensures that services are not only available, but also trusted, understood, and utilised—leading to more sustainable outcomes.
